1. Harvesting rain water can be as simple as placing the rain barrel under a rain gutter downspout to allow storm water to flow into the screened top. For improved control you will find Iowa-made downspout diverters at our store in colors to match your downspouts. Always plan a path for the overflow to route it to flow away from your foundation, either to the original discharge route, or to a nearby garden or tree. In Iowa, unless you use a permanently installed downspout diverter from our store, at the end of the warm season please reconnect the downspouts for winter and early spring, so save your original spouts and screws to keep it easy.
2. For winter storage, the empty rain barrel can simply be inverted. If water is left to freeze in the rain barrel, damage is likely!

3. Maintain the exterior finish annually with a UV-resistant coating, such as you may already use on a vehicle. We use Armor-All Original.
